He appeared in a WW I draft registration record on 5 June 1917 in Stanislaus Co., California.33 
Russell gives his address as Hughson California. He states that he was born in Salem(sic) (New Salem) Ohio and is employed as a farm laborer for F. D. Keeney in Hughson. He lists himself as a widower with 1 child dependent. He is described as being of medium height and build with brown eyes and reddish brown hair. He signed his name Russell Miller Bodell.
